Dearomatised White Spirit Overview
Dearomatised (also written de-aromatised) white spirits are aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents that have been hydrotreated to bring the aromatic content down to a very low level. Compared with conventional white spirit they have a milder odour and a cleaner composition, which is why they are widely used in consumer-facing and indoor products.
The D40, D60 and D80 names are common industry designations for grades of increasing distillation range and flash point: D40 is the lightest and evaporates fastest, while D80 is heavier and evaporates more slowly. Buyers usually choose the grade by the drying time, flash point and solvency their formulation needs.
Lower aromatic content also means lower solvency for some resins than a conventional white spirit, so formulators moving from standard white spirit should check resin compatibility and drying behaviour in their own system before switching.

Handling, Storage & Safety
Dearomatised white spirit is a flammable liquid and can be harmful if swallowed, as it may enter the lungs (aspiration hazard). Store drums closed, in a cool, well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks and open flames, and earth equipment when transferring. Use suitable gloves and eye protection, and follow the SDS for the specific grade.
