White Spirit Overview
White spirit is a mixture of aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons, usually with some aromatic content, distilled from petroleum. It dissolves oils, greases, waxes and many resins, and evaporates at a moderate rate.
Standard white spirit differs from Corofy's Dearomatised White Spirit (D40 / D60 / D80): the dearomatised grades have had most aromatics removed and have a milder odour, while standard white spirit is the general-purpose, cost-effective choice for thinning and cleaning.
White spirit is chosen where a strong, general-purpose hydrocarbon solvent is needed at a reasonable cost and where a stronger odour is acceptable. For products used indoors, or where odour matters, a dearomatised grade may be a better fit.
