Imidazolines are film-forming inhibitors. Their polar head adsorbs onto the metal surface while the hydrocarbon tail forms a barrier that keeps water, CO2 and H2S away from the steel. They are among the most widely used inhibitor chemistries in oilfield production.
In CI-150Z the imidazoline is combined with ethylene glycol, which acts as a carrier and helps low-temperature handling, and sodium thiosulphate, which is often used as a synergist in oilfield inhibitor packages. The exact composition is proprietary.
