STPP Overview
STPP is a white, water-soluble powder. Compared with SAPP, it is neutral to mildly alkaline rather than acidic, so it disperses and sequesters without pushing pH down. This makes it a general-purpose dispersant rather than a contamination treatment.
In water-based drilling fluids, STPP works as a phosphate thinner: it adsorbs on clay edges, reduces flocculation and lowers yield point and gel strength. In water and cleaning systems it complexes calcium and magnesium and keeps particles suspended.
