Poly Aluminium Chloride Overview
PAC is made up of polymeric aluminium hydroxychloride species. Because the aluminium is already partly hydrolysed and polymerised, PAC forms flocs quickly and consumes less of the water's alkalinity than aluminium sulphate (alum).
The positively charged aluminium species neutralise the negative charge on colloidal particles, which then gather into flocs that can be settled, floated or filtered out. PAC often works over a wider pH and temperature range than alum.
The right PAC dose depends on the raw water, so plants normally run jar tests to set it. PAC is often used with a polymer flocculant, which helps the small flocs it forms grow larger and settle faster.

Handling, Storage & Safety
