MAPOL NP Overview
Nonylphenol ethoxylates are made by reacting nonylphenol with ethylene oxide. The number in the grade name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide (EO) units: lower-EO grades are more oil-soluble, while higher-EO grades are more water-soluble. This lets a formulator move along the hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) scale by choosing, or blending, grades.
In EC formulations, lower and mid-range grades such as NP 9 and NP 10 are typically used as emulsifiers and wetting agents, often alongside an anionic such as calcium alkylbenzene sulfonate. Applications of MAPOL NP
MAPOL NP grades are general-purpose non-ionic surfactants. In agrochemicals they are mainly used for emulsification and wetting.
Emulsifiable Concentrates
- Non-ionic emulsifier, usually combined with an anionic partner.
- Grade choice adjusts the HLB of the emulsifier system to suit the solvent and active ingredient.
Wetting and Spreading
- Lowers surface tension so spray solutions wet leaf and powder surfaces more readily.
